Before you factory reset a Samsung TV for sale, agree the handover timing with the buyer and plan how to remove your accounts and settings. First send the model, condition and any requested screen photographs. You do not need to share your account passwords with a buyer.
A restart and a factory reset are different
Switching a television off and on is not the same as removing its settings. Samsung distinguishes a soft reset, which keeps data, from a factory reset. Use the relevant option for your purpose rather than assuming a restart prepares the set for a new owner. Samsung’s reset guide explains the difference.
How to factory reset a Samsung TV: check your model
On sets covered by Samsung’s current US guide, open the settings menu, find General & Privacy, and choose Reset. Enter the TV PIN and follow the confirmation on screen. Samsung lists 0000 as the default PIN when it has not been changed.
Other models place Reset under Support and Self Diagnosis, or under General. If the route does not match your television, use its model-specific manual. The same guide notes that the reset function may be unavailable while an app is open, so return to the appropriate TV screen first. See Samsung’s model-aware reset instructions.
Do not assume every reset clears every setting
Samsung describes the full TV-settings reset in that guide as excluding network settings. It also describes a separate Smart Hub reset for linked account and app information. Check the instructions for your model and review any remaining network or account settings before handover.
A TV reset also does not prepare separate equipment such as a streaming stick, games console or external receiver. Decide which accessories are included in the sale and handle their accounts separately if they are being handed over.
Complete the selling checklist
- Keep the agreed model and accessory list available.
- Disclose known screen, sound or power faults accurately.
- Confirm the collection time, location and access arrangements.
- Ask about preparation before disconnecting or removing a wall-mounted set.
Resetting is a preparation step, not evidence that an existing hardware fault has disappeared. Describe any known problem honestly when discussing the television.
